The 4 Core Steps you need to implement to Show Up For Yourself

I see it all the time. People buy a course, or join a program, and in the beginning they are really dedicated.

It’s exciting.

It’s new.

You know the feeling. . .

Impatient to start, to get going.

It feels as if you’re about to win a race.

You can almost feel the weight of the medal around your neck.

And you want it to go fast.

So fast.

Ready, steady, GO!

But after a while you realize that it’s not going to be one of those sprints. . .
It’s actually going to take longer.

Because there are more things to it, to building a business, more factors that you thought you had in control - but you definitely don’t.

All of a sudden you start doubting yourself. Doubting the strategy that you just bought in to. Doubting whether this will work for you.

And you realize that it’s definitely not going to be a sprint.

It is in fact a marathon.

So, it’s no longer so exciting.

Many things aren’t new anyways. You’ve heard them before. You might even have tried some of them before too.

So, if you’re being really honest to yourself, you actually know how to do this already.

So you let other things start to take over. It’s a bit like weed.

You no longer prioritize the steps you need to take or the things that you need to do in order to follow the strategy.

And your business doesn’t get anywhere. And everyone else around you seems to make progress.

You’re the only one who is right there where you were when you invested in that course or program.

And you know what? It’s not so strange. Think of it like when you’re watching a movie.

If you only watch the beginning, and then you fade off somewhere in the middle, maybe you doze off, or start scrolling on social media, you’re no longer that interested in what happens on the screen.

You might turn back your attention to the movie shortly before “the end” and the cast list starts rolling.

But you have missed essential bits and pieces in the middle, so you will never truly understand or grasp what it was that was going on.

It’s the same when you’re building your business.

You need to stay focused.

You need to mark that time in your calendar and make sure that you complete the trainings and the tasks that you had defined for yourself.

I’m not saying that you have to stay 100% focused ALL the time. I doubt that anyone can do that.

But what I’m saying is that you need to be aware of the importance of showing up for yourself.

To know that when you prioritize something else, when you dedicate the time that you had earmarked for your business to something else that has nothing to do with your business, then it will take longer for your business to grow.

Building a business will never be a 100m race, but when you commit to it, make sure you show up for yourself and for your business, it will grow.

So, then, let’s get to the chase. How DO you do it. Where do you even start?

You are important.

There is no one else that is as important as you.

It’s hard to admit it, but not even your kids are as important.

Because when you’re upset, frustrated and scared - it impacts them.

It impacts everything.

Your surroundings. Your performance. Your energy.

Step 1:

Commit to yourself being important. Do things just for you. Not for anyone else. Not for your partner, your kids, or your friends - just for you.

It might be difficult to see the positive impact it will have in the beginning. Prioritizing yourself when you’re not used to doing it takes practice. But it is really important. Because if you don’t function. Nothing does. You have to start prioritizing yourself, your wants and your needs.

Step 2:

Block the “me time” in your agenda. That can be exercise, or an excursion, but it’s also the time that you dedicate to building your business. Do the trainings. Show up to the meetings. Do it for yourself.

Step 3:

Add recurring “emergency time” blocks in your agenda. I have 8h in my calendar weekly, but anything between 4h - 8h per week works. You decide.

This can be used as “me time”, BUT I would rather suggest you use the emergency time for other urgent matters, so that you don’t start to skip your “me time” appointments thinking “ah, I can always catch up during my emergency time block”.

Don’t think that. Your me time is your me time. Treat it with care and importance.

Step 4:

And I know. It sounds really easy, but it’s not. So be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break. And go back to being that fierce fighter that I know you are and SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF.

And one day you will feel the weight of that medal around your neck.
